Semiaridinaria fastuosa 'Viridis'
Green Temple Bamboo is considered by many to be one of the most elegant screen/hedge bamboos available. A mature stand is a sight to behold, with short, dense branches, lush foliage, and a very upright stature. Unlike many of the larger bamboos in the Phyllostachys genus, Green Temple forms the look of columns of greenery. The short dense branches, and thick culms in relation to it's height help this bamboo to stay upright in rain or snowfall that cause other bamboo species to lean.
The temple bamboos get their name from the practice of them being used as ornamental plants near oriental monasteries and sites of worship due to their upright stature. Of medium height, lush of look, and hardy in its growth habit, there is much to love about this bamboo. The only downside to this species is its habit of deep rhizome growth, therefore planting it in areas where you cannot rhizome prune effectively can cause trouble if you need to limit growth.
