Indocalamus tessalatus
With the largest leaves of any temperate bamboo in cultivation, Indocalamus tessalatus makes a dramatic statement in your garden. A very tolerant bamboo, this is one that will take almost any conditions you plant it in, although it looks best planted in an area that is mostly sunny, but protected from late afternoon sun. A vigorous runner, you will have to keep it in check by occasionally pruning the rhizomes, or, for ease of care, plant in a container and enjoy a cascade of huge tropical looking leaves, which can reach 4"x 24" long! This also one of the few bamboos that will tolerate indoor culture as a houseplant-give it as much sun indoors as possible, and keep an eye on the water, and it will look wonderful.
