Phyllostachys bissetii

Phyllosachys bissetii is one of the fastest spreading, most cold hardy running bamboos. We recommend this species as a quick growing screen plant, however, rhizome pruning or other control method is a must if you are concerned about spread.  If you are looking for a fast growing bamboo, or want to fill in a large area quickly, this may be the species for you.

Care requirements for Phyllostachys bissetii

• • Light- does best in dappled sun, but will tolerate a wide range, up to full sun if watered well

  • Water- Moderate water requirement

  • Temperature- down to -5F

  • Size- Phyllostachys bissetii can reach 25' tall in ideal conditions. canes can be up to 1" diameter. Can be trimmed shorter like a standard hedge.
